Família Sagrada de Fonseca - reinterpretação

Obra 1

As part of the celebrations and tributes to Goan culture, this work is a reinterpretation of a representation of the Holy Family, inspired by Fonseca, a major figure in Goan painting. Its realisation coincided with the visit to Portugal of a great friend of the artist, author of a reference work on Fonseca - Father Délio Mendonça - to whom this painting also pays homage.

In addition to paying tribute, the choice of theme allowed for a broader reflection on the concept of the family and its role in contemporary society, which is marked by profound changes and structural challenges. The artistic gesture thus combines tradition and the present, fusing cultural memories with present-day concerns.

Interpretation by Fr Délio Mendonça (Rome):
Holy Family.
The near fusion of the three fi gures, through fi nal lines and three colours, creates a truly united Holy Family. The Orient is evident and emphasised by the oil lamp. Their meditative gazes, tenderness, touch and human care invite us to contemplate the Divine.
