EnormE, num mundo de cegos
This work, realised in the last quarter of 2022, incorporates the artist's most recent plastic expression and brushstrokes, and is painted on the reverse side of the canvas - a personal signature that Dino maintains. The cutting lines, which divide the painting into four parts, are also a distinctive mark of his. The ascending horizontal line symbolises José Saramago's journey of growth, from his birth in 1922 to his centenary in 2022, representing a work in constant evolution and expansion.
Reflecting on Blindness, a work whose relevance has been reinforced by the pandemic, Dino delves into the concept of blindness, which is not literal but symbolic. Inspired by the Japanese proverb of the three wise monkeys, the work celebrates Saramago's 100th birthday with a powerful symbolism: the monkey Masaru, who ‘can't see’, covers his eyes, representing blindness in the metaphorical sense described by the writer. This idea takes on movement and life in the undulating forms of the hair that flutters, emerging from the head, in a dynamic visual expression that reinforces the painting's message.
